Welcome to React

Think in components. Ship real screens.

This week you'll stop thinking in pages and start building interfaces out of small, named pieces you can reason about one at a time.

A component is just a function

It takes some data — React calls it props — and returns what that piece of the screen should look like. A button that knows how to look disabled. A profile card that shows a name, an avatar and a role.

That's the whole mental model. When the data changes, React calls your function again and updates the screen for you. You describe; React does the bookkeeping.

Your first component

TSX

function Greeting({ name }) {
  return <h1>Hello, {name}</h1>;
}

Props arrive as one object — here we pull out name

Whatever you return is what renders
